What are omega fatty acids?

Omega fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids. They are essential—meaning our bodies cannot produce them on their own. Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are particularly important. While omega-6 is often consumed in excess through our diet, many people lack omega-3—a crucial building block for cell health, brain function, and inflammation regulation.

Omega-3 can be found in foods like fatty fish, flaxseed, and chia seeds. But is that enough in practice? Not always. A targeted supplement can be particularly beneficial for cannabis users.

The connection with the endocannabinoid system

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) consists, among other things, of receptors (CB1, CB2) located in cell membranes. These membranes are made of lipids—i.e., fats. A sufficient supply of omega-3 can improve the flexibility and function of these cell membranes.

A balanced ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 also contributes to the effective functioning of the ECS. What's particularly exciting is that studies suggest that omega-3 fatty acids can even promote the body's own production of endocannabinoids.

You can learn more about the ECS in the article “What is the endocannabinoid system?”

Cannabis, inflammation and Omega-3

Cannabis is often consumed for its anti-inflammatory properties—especially CBD. Omega-3 fatty acids also have anti-inflammatory effects, so the combination can have a synergistic effect.

While cannabis affects the ECS, omega-3 supports this system structurally. Regular users can therefore benefit long-term from a sufficient supply of omega-3 – both mentally and physically.

Did you know? Omega-3 also plays an important role in mood and can alleviate depressive moods—a common reason why many people smoke joints.

Omega+: The supplement for cannabis consumers

Nutritional tips for optimal results

If you want to better absorb Omega-3, you should follow these tips:

  • High-fat meals increase the absorption of Omega-3
  • Alcohol and sugar reduce the usability
  • Green leafy vegetables, nuts and algae are natural sources
  • Vitamin D supports cell absorption – contained, for example, in Mango+

By the way: The combination of omega-3 and bitter substances can be particularly exciting. Why? Because both systems—digestion and the ECS—are closely linked.
