What is THC?
THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) is the most well-known psychoactive cannabinoid. It is responsible for the characteristic "high" in cannabis. After ingestion, THC primarily binds to CB1 receptors in the brain, leading to effects such as euphoria, altered perception of time, increased appetite, or relaxation.
However, at higher dosages or in sensitive individuals, THC can also trigger anxiety, paranoia, or circulatory problems – you can find more about this in our article on Cannabis Bad Trips.
What is CBD?
CBD (Cannabidiol) is also a major component of the cannabis plant, but without intoxicating effects. Many people use CBD to alleviate inner restlessness, improve sleep, or support overall well-being – all without a high.
Although some potential effects of CBD are described, studies with a large number of participants are often still lacking. Legally, CBD products are permitted in Germany as long as the THC content is below 0.2%.
THC vs. CBD: Key Differences
| Property | THC | CBD |
|---|---|---|
| Psychoactivity | Intoxicating | No intoxicating effect |
| Effect on CB1 | Direct activation | Indirectly modulates |
| Legal Status | Legal only under medical supervision | Legal if < 0.2% THC |
| Side Effects | Anxiety, paranoia, rapid heartbeat | Generally well-tolerated |
CBD can partially mitigate the effects of THC – which is why strains with a higher CBD content often have a milder effect.
THC & CBD in Cannabis Consumption
Those who combine THC and CBD often aim to experience a more balanced high. CBD can influence the binding of THC to CB1 receptors and thus specifically cushion the psychoactive experience.
Especially with edible products, one should dose carefully. CBD is often used to reduce side effects such as anxiety or irritability. However, a drop of CBD does not replace responsible THC consumption.
THC tolerance also plays a role. Those who regularly consume THC will need higher doses over time. Strategies such as consumption breaks or supportive products like Nature+ from Canasups can help reduce tolerance and regain balance.
Support through Supplements – Does it Make Sense?
While there are no supplements that can directly alter THC or CBD, certain products indirectly support the endocannabinoid system – for example, through bitter substances to promote THC breakdown or omega-3 fatty acids to regulate endogenous cannabinoids.
Canasups offers innovative solutions such as Nature+, Omega+, and Mango+. Myrcene in Mango+ can influence THC effects, while Nature+ may support metabolism and Omega+ may support the endocannabinoid system with nutrients.
However, such supplements should be used responsibly – eat a balanced diet, consume consciously, and use products as a supplement, not as a replacement. You can also find information on this in the Canasups blog.
